NAF / APE code — French activity nomenclature
Find your NAF code (also known as APE code), understand what it corresponds to and convert it to European NACE or to a national equivalent.
The NAF code (Nomenclature d'activités française) is assigned by INSEE to every company in France to identify its main activity. It's also called APE (Activité Principale Exercée) — same code.
With NACEBridge you can decode a NAF code, see its division and section, or convert it to its European equivalent (NACE) or a national one (CNAE in Spain, WZ in Germany, CAE in Portugal…).
The current version is NAF rev. 2.1 (2025), aligned with NACE Rev. 2.1. All data comes from official sources.
FAQ
- What's the difference between NAF and APE?
- None — same code. 'NAF' names the nomenclature; 'APE' names the application of that nomenclature to a specific business. Format is identical (4 digits + 1 letter).
- Where can I find my NAF code?
- On your SIRENE registration extract (avis-situation-sirene.insee.fr), your Kbis extract, or any official INSEE document issued at registration.
- How do I find a company's NAF code?
- Search its SIREN number on annuaire-entreprises.data.gouv.fr or INSEE's SIRENE registry. The NAF code is always listed.
- How do I change my NAF code?
- NAF is assigned automatically by INSEE based on your declared activity. To change it, request an update via the guichet unique or directly with INSEE.
