Compreende, nomeadamente, a: descontaminação de solos e de águas subterrâneas poluídas, utilizando processos mecânicos, químicos ou biológicos; descontaminação e limpeza de águas superficiais poluídas, através da recolha dos poluentes ou da aplicação de produtos químicos; limpeza de derramamentos de petróleo, no solo, nas águas superficiais ou no mar, incluindo áreas costeiras; descontaminação de instalações industriais (remoção de amianto, tintas contendo metais pesados e outros materiais perigosos); remoção e eliminação de minas terrestres, atividades de captura de carbono, recuperação paisagística de zonas de exploração mineira em atividade ou encerradas e outras atividades especializadas similares para controlo e eliminação da poluição.
