Compreende as atividades de aluguer de produtos de propriedade intelectual (exceto direitos de autor) mediante o pagamento de uma renda ou ¿royalty¿ ao proprietário do ativo. O uso destes ativos reveste várias formas (permissão para reprodução, ¿arrendamento¿ de patentes, licenças, marcas comerciais ou de serviços, emissão de ¿franchises¿, direitos de exploração e avaliação mineral; domínios da Internet; direitos sobre jogos de tabuleiro criados ou produzidos). Inclui ¿royalties¿ ou taxas de licenciamento por resultados de investigação científica. Os atuais proprietários podem ser ou não os criadores destes produtos.
